Doctoring photos

With the resolution on even quite modestly priced digital cameras going up seemingly by the day it’s now possible to retouch photos pretty much the same way as the professionals do.

Older cameras couldn’t really zoom in close enough with the image to allow the fine changing of individual pixels without it being noticed on prints produced from the cameras but these days 8mp cameras are commonplace and at that level of resolution there’s quite a lot you can do on the original without it being noticeable on any prints produced. Fortunately the price of the technology that you need to make the adjustments to the images has also crashed in price so, if you’re into photography, it’s viable to consider buying one of the digital airbrush devices and start playing around with it.

I’ve got one myself and have barely touched the surface of what’s possible. Whilst you can do some of the retouching via a mouse to really make the most of the software available you really need to look at graphics pads which are quite simply fantastic and that’s even at the beginner level - a few months use of it and you’ll not know how you did without it.

Las Vegas vacations

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Las Vegas vacations are a little peculiar in that although the place is obviously constructed on the back of the numerous casinos, it’s effectively a giant theme park with pretty low prices for just about everything.

Las Vegas travel therefore caters for a much wider range of categories of travellers than you might at first expect. There are obviously the gamblers and the high rollers are really well looked after with very luxurious suites available and all the trimmings that you’d expect. However, that infrastructure means that there are untold numbers of travel options available to you with great deals available year-round.

The range of accommodation is vast too. You can stay in some of the most luxurious rooms in the world or you can stay in a campsite. Whatever you choose you can pretty much take it for granted that the price you pay will be a lot less than you do in most other places and the service will be higher.

Don’t you miss the funny t-shirts?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

Not so long ago you saw them everywhere, didn’t you? Nowadays, the funny t-shirt seems almost like a dying breed which is a shame I think.

OK, sometimes funny t shirts were offensive to some, often rude and always with an irrereverant sense of humour. But, hey, isn’t all humour like that? The plain-Jane approach to humour doesn’t work for the most part: by and large, we need something that little bit off-colour to bring a smile.

So why not hunt an appealing one down and make a point of being different from the crowd?
