Do you ever wish that there were a course on parenting?

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

OK, so most of us haven’t had the time to lift our heads from the day to day activities that go into parenthood to even think about a course in how to do it better, but as it happens there are courses in the general area.

There are loads of parenting websites around these days of course and it’s definitely a big step forward to be able to yell for help on some weird and wonderful problem that has crept up with junior. However, you can take it a good deal further than that if you’re really brave by looking at some of the university courses on child development. Some of the universities running them have set fairly easily achieveable entry levels for these courses as they’re part of the psychology programme which isn’t taught at the majority of schools (hence the easily achieveable entry)

Do watch that you don’t get carried away with trying to apply every theory on the “best” parenting though!

Looking for “the” diet pill?

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Unfortunately, it’s not so easy as taking just one pill unless you’re very lucky and your weight is down to one specific cause which is, of course, why there is such a vast array of these pills around these days.

To choose the diet pill most likely to work for you, you need to look at what each of the diet pills actually does and compare that to the likely reasons that are causing you to gain wait (or not lose it). For example, if it’s basically down to overeating then a diet suppressant is the one to go for (many people go for that as a default choice). On the other hand, if it’s down to a sedentary lifestyle (which many of us have these days) then it’s more likely to be a metabolism enhancer that you’d need.

Have a good read at the side-effects too though!

Just what DO you put the flat screen on?

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

Back in the old days we just plonked the telly on top of a table and it worked just fine.

However, these days everything seems to be flatscreen and they just fall over if you try to stand them up on normal furniture so you need a stand to put them on. An LCD mount sounds like it would be simple enough but with the flat screen technology comes the possibility of swivelling the screen around and that means that there’s loads of choices to be made when you’re buying the things.

Whilst it looked good on the science fiction movies, attaching the screens to the wall is rarely a good option and you’re best to look at swivel mounts for the small to medium sized screens. It would be nice to look at them for the really big screens too but it’s best to check out that your wall is up to supporting the larger models before you start bolting it on or you could end up needing both a new wall and a new screen.
