A night at the movies… at home

Sunday, August 3rd, 2008

The home theatre setups have been available for our TVs for quite a while now but it’s not really a home theatre, is it?

All most of us have is a really big TV with speakers to match. Oh, the sound is much the same as you’d get in a movie theatre (without the russling of crisp packets etc. of course) but the atmosphere isn’t quite there really so what’s missing?

Well, it’s obvious really: everyone just installs the “home theatre” setup in their living room and really that’s just bumping up the size of the TV. To get the effect of a real theatre at home what you need is proper home theater seating to go along with the technology upgrade.

Compared to the price of the TV installation the furniture isn’t that expensive (around $500 for three seats) though you’d want to be really serious about it if you were looking at movie style popcorn machines as they start off at over $800.
