So just how DO you lose fat?

Perhaps the biggest question isn’t so much “how to lose fat” but how to keep it off once you’ve lost it.

Losing it is, in principle, easy. All you have to do is to use up the energy in your food faster than you consume it. Thus the approaches are to eat less high energy foods to begin with or alternatively to use up the energy even faster eg through exercise or turning up the knob on your metabolism.

Keeping it off is harder simply because it’s a long term deal. You can lose it fairly quickly over a number of months but keeping it off it a matter of years. Thus those changes that you made to your lifestyle to lose the weight need to be maintained for the long term and that’s not nearly so easy to do.
