One of the minor but important things about starting into a gym membership is asking questions about the equipment.
OK, you’ll know what cycles are and nobody knows what the various weights machines are called. But what about the ellipticals? Don’t know what they are? Neither did I until I realised that they’re what’s generally called the ski-ing machines (or at least that’s what I call them).
Once you’ve gotten past that problem then you’ll have to work your way up to asking about nutrition or rather about all the heaps of supplements that seem associated with gyms these days. Whether they’re “legal” for athletes isn’t an issue for us amateurs but that doesn’t simplify the issues surrounding them. And, no, you probably can’t just ignore them if you’re serious about getting fitter as sooner or later you’ll reach the point where you need to actually eat more to build muscle and supplements will enter your life at that point.

Getting off drugs is far from easy for the majority of people and so all the assistance you can get is more than welcome.
What does help is a rapid detox at the start. Clinics offering this are far from cheap with $12,000 being a typical charge for the inclusive service (which isn’t covered by medical insurance). That sounds like a load of money but then rapid detox is something of a misnomer. Yes, the detox is rapid but there’s a whole bunch of before and after care that’s both required and included.
A rapid detox is very much a medical procedure and one that’s none too easy on the system. Thus, you’ll want to know that intensive medical care is available for a period after the detox procedure itself is carried out.
Once you’re over that, it makes sense to stay clean. To that end, inclusive psychological treatment isn’t really an option but an essential part of these procedures.
