Once your kids hit their teens many of them will be taking a close interest in treatments for acne and, as with all vanity treatments, there’s a wide range of choice these days.

Naturally teenagers don’t have a lot of money to play with so, on the whole, the various treatments are fairly cheaps for this type of product and you’ll usually get substantial discounts on the normal retail price by shopping around online. Typically, the online price is around half of the usual retail price so there are pretty substantial savings to be had.

Stopping your body absorbing fat in the first place

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

Most diet pills tackle the problem after the event ie they get rid of fat that’s already been incorporated into your body but there’s another approach to this: tell your body not to absorb the fat in the first place.

What products such as alli do is to attach themselves to the fat molecules and thereby stop your body doing that itself. In theory a brilliant approach but, as always, there are downsides. Unless you’ve health problems the most noticeable side-effect is that you can get a mild form of diarrhea essentially because of the oily nature of the products formed when the fat is bound to the contents of the diet pill. Unless you’re eating a lot of fatty products in your normal diet chances are that you won’t notice this much.

Naturally these pills are most effective if you’re gaining weight because you’re eating a lot of fatty products which, of course, is the case for many of us.

Isn’t memory technology confusing these days?

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

In days gone by it was very easy to get “memory” for your camera it was all 35mm film so the only real choice was in the brand in regular shops.

These days though chances are you’ve gone digital and have a wealth of choice to make to find something that will both fit and work in your camera. There’s the old-timer compact flash which is still used in the very latest professional cameras because of it’s speed. Then there’s a whole range of SD cards and it’s far from obvious if these will work in your camera because some cameras only support up to 1GB (rarely indicated), others up to 2GB and then there’s the high capacity versions starting at 4GB and running up to 16GB at the moment which will actually work in some “normal” cameras too even if they don’t have the SDHC tag on them.

So watch what you’re lifting in the shop!
