Las Vegas vacations

Las Vegas vacations are a little peculiar in that although the place is obviously constructed on the back of the numerous casinos, it’s effectively a giant theme park with pretty low prices for just about everything.

Las Vegas travel therefore caters for a much wider range of categories of travellers than you might at first expect. There are obviously the gamblers and the high rollers are really well looked after with very luxurious suites available and all the trimmings that you’d expect. However, that infrastructure means that there are untold numbers of travel options available to you with great deals available year-round.

The range of accommodation is vast too. You can stay in some of the most luxurious rooms in the world or you can stay in a campsite. Whatever you choose you can pretty much take it for granted that the price you pay will be a lot less than you do in most other places and the service will be higher.

Are you addicted to buying luggage too?

Friday, August 8th, 2008

As Wendy will tell you, I’m a luggage buying addict and can’t pass the window of a shop selling it without looking inside.

Well, not so much a buying addict, more a luggage browsing addict as I’m always looking for the “perfect” case. I do travel reasonably often so it makes some sense to look around for good cases and, of course, the differing regulations on airlines means that it’s handy to have a selection.

But what’s “perfect”? Well, carry-on is the way to go these days as the weight limits have largely gone and it avoids both the queues at baggage collection and the often exorbitant checked baggage charges you find these days. Handy too is a bag that fits into another one I find as I quite frequently end up bringing more back than I take away. Finally, there’s juniors 1 & 2 who like to have their own case.

Oh, and let’s not forget that with the high weight limits on hand luggage these days it’s a pain to carry the cases so wheeled is the way to go to.

Funnily enough the best case that I’ve found to date is by far the cheapest: all of EUR 3.50 for a case that is right up to the size limits for flights, light and no junk inside to fill up the space before you start. I wish I’d bought a couple more of them whist the offer was still on!

Forget the airconditioner, look into dehumidifiers

Friday, July 4th, 2008

When it gets hot just about everyone starts thinking of getting the credit card out and buying an airconditioner but that’s not necessarily the best approach.

For one think, airconditioners are both expensive and expensive to run. You’re going to take a major hit on the electic charge if you fire it up all summer.

However, it’s usually not the heat as such that gets to you but the humidity that really does you in. So, you can get a major improvement in your living environment by considering the likes of Ebac dehumidifiers which are both cheaper for comparable “cooling” effects and much cheaper to run too.
